In Beliefs and Ethics (BE) at Bute House, students learn to ask searching questions and develop open and tolerant minds. We encourage the pupils to understand themselves, explore relationships with others and consider the place of the individual within the local community and the wider world.
Across the school pupils study world religions and belief systems along with atheist and other secular subjects. Students develop an understanding and respect for different beliefs, religions, values and traditions, whilst increasing their awareness of spiritual and moral issues through life experiences.
Girls are also given the opportunity for self reflection each day, when they are read the ‘thought of the day’ during lunchtime, instead of a religious prayer. These daily quotes and affirmations encourage deeper thinking and allow the girls to reflect on their own spirituality.
